Mahogany is a traditional Cornish drink made from Gin and Black Treacle. To make mahogany you mix 2 parts gin to one part black treacle. To aid the mixing of the drink it is best to warm the treacle or gin (or both) and gently add them to together mixing slowly. The better the quality of gin the better the quality of Mahogany and more enjoyable the drink.
Mahogany is popularly drank on feast days and at Christmas time. The treacle masks the alcohol and makes the drink taste like alcoholic treacle toffee. For this reason when drinking mahogany caution is advised .
