Kiddlywink

A Kiddlywink was an beer shop common in parts of Cornwall. Any pub that is named a wink was formerly a Kiddlywink. These were notorious as places were smuggled spirits such as brandy were on sale, the tradition has it that each of these places had a kettle which was used to signify if spirits were available. The spout would point one way if there was some to be drunk and another if the smuggled goods were available. You signified your desire to drink the spirits by a wink at the landlord.
