Dash an Daras

The Dash an Daras is a custom not unlike the stirrup cup. It was customary to offer a last drink to guests before they depart on a journey. “Daras” is the Cornish word for door and the origin of word may be similar to the  deoch an dorais the Scottish Gaelic name for the same custom. The stirrup cup takes it’s name from the fact that the drink was often served to people mounted on horses before they leave and has become synonymous with hunting this however was not always the case.
